It is so important to eat your greens every day – and we don’t mean the occasional piece of lettuce on your burger or the frozen peas you eat for dinner. Greens are what build healthy cells which in turn build a healthy body. And when we say greens we mean real greens like salads (with green / red leaf lettuce), steamed leafy greens (bok choy, swiss chard, collard greens), avocados, cucumbers, broccoli, etc.
Here are 5 tips on how to get your greens in every day, throughout the day.
Tip #4 – Make a salad every night with dinner
This is our go to salad that we make almost every night while just mixing up the types of greens and the vegetables inside. It is a simple salad that everyone really loves. Even when we have guests over they always mention how much they love our salads. This is the one that wins everyone’s heart!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
1 head of lettuce cleaned and cut – you can mix up the taste of this salad by using different types of lettuces each time
Green leaf or red leaf lettuce
Butter lettuce
Romaine lettuce
Spinach
Or you can also use boxed pre-cleaned mixed lettuce 1 English cucumber diced (long skinny one wrapped in plastic)
2 tomatoes diced
1 handful of hemp seeds
Olive oil to taste – or whatever cold-pressed oil you prefer
Sea salt / Real salt to taste
Kitchen Items Required:
Salad Spinner which also acts as salad bowl
Knife
Cutting Board
Other Options to Consider: Because we make this very basic dinner salad so often we tend to mix up the vegetables we use to keep the salad exciting. Sometimes we will add diced avocado, zucchini, broccoli, bell peppers, carrots, celery, beets, artichokes, olives, etc. There are nights where we will also add a can of organic canned beans (like garbanzo, red, pinto, great northern) after rinsing them.
Steps:
1. Chop and clean lettuce using salad spinner or just add lettuce to bowl from pre-cleaned box. Use the salad spinner bowl as your salad bowl to save on dishes.
2. Clean and dice cucumber sand tomatoes and add them to bowl
3. Add a handful of hemp seeds
4. Add olive oil and sea salt / Real Salt to taste – mix well and enjoy
5. Store in an airtight container in there frigerator for up to three days
